How to end Homelessness?

Homelessness is an extreme form of poverty and social exclusion. Simply put, people who are homeless do not have safe, affordable, appropriate, permanent housing to which they can return whenever they choose.

The Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness leads a national movement of individuals, organizations and communities working together to end homelessness in Canada.

There are four core elements of a Plan to End Homelessness:
  • Plan for outcome.
  • Close the front door.
  • Open the back door.
  • Build the infrastructure.
But this is the plan of “The Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness” Did you know that you can make houses out of plastic bottles? By filling them with sand, and molding them together with mud or cement, the walls created are actually bullet proof, fire proof, and will maintain an comfortable indoor temperature of 64 degrees in the summer time. The United States throws away enough plastic bottles to build 9257 of these 2 bedroom houses per day! That’s just over 3.35 million homes, the same number of homeless people in America.

Also there are ways to end with youth homelessness
  • Preventing youth homelessness and reuniting families.- Kids are less likely to leave home in the first place if they get along with their parents.
  • Ensuring education and employment opportunities: YouthCare connects homeless kids with adults who teach them the academic and job skills needed for future self-sufficiency.
  • Sending strong messages: The general public and elected officials must see the value of taking smart steps, now, to end youth homelessness.
